Lean In has partnered with International Women’s Day to support this year’s theme of #AccelerateAction to advance women in the workplace. They’re an organisation based in the US to help women achieve their ambitions, and create an equal world.
Sheryl Sandberg, Founder of Lean In says:
“We want a world where everyone can pursue their dreams without bias or other barriers holding them back. Where girls grow up to be confident, resilient leaders. Where more women run companies and countries. We are driven by the belief our society and economy would be better if women and girls were valued as equal to men and boys.”
Lean In aim to do this in a number of ways. One being Lean In Circles which allow women the opportunity to receive and give peer mentorship, learn new skills and be unapologetically ambitious. More than 100,000 community members in 183 countries have started a circle, with new ones starting every day.

They’ve also recently released Lean In Girls, a leadership programme designed to help girls see themselves as leaders in a world that often tells them that they’re not. At the heart of the programme is a curriculum that helps participants embrace their leadership skills and reject stereotypes about what girls can and can’t do.

Lean In also advocates for better public policy and inclusive workplaces because they know that to make lasting change, there needs to be a major cultural and institutional shift. Their programmes, including an initiative with the NBA calling on men to do their part, combat bias at work and at home to challenge gender stereotypes. As such, Lean In have curated a collection of more than 15,000 photographs in partnership with Getty, of empowered girls and women to inspire and show that women can lead and break out of the mould.

The best thing about the Lean In programmes is that anyone can get involved, no matter where they are. Their information sessions and resources are available for free on www.leanin.org.
